OVSICORI-UNA Alerta Terremotos

OVSICORI-UNA is a mobile application developed to notify users about earthquakes that can be felt and, in the best case scenario, provide early warnings, giving users time to take action by Ducking, Covering, and Holding On. The app is effective for distances between approximately 50 and 150 km. Closer to the epicenter, there is not enough time to issue an alert, and further away, although the earthquake may be felt, it will not cause significant damage that warrants an alert.

This free application is provided by the Universidad Nacional as a complement to the information dissemination work carried out by OVSICORI-UNA. It is a fully automated system that links multiple instruments and algorithms and is therefore susceptible to technical failures. The app provides three types of alerts: Red, Orange, and Green.

The Red Alert indicates that the earthquake can be felt with an intensity greater than or equal to V, and users have a few seconds to take action. It is notified through voice commands and vibration. The Orange Alert indicates that the earthquake can be felt with an intensity greater than or equal to III but less than V. It is notified through sound and vibration. The Green Alert indicates that the earthquake can be felt with an intensity less than III. It is silently notified.

For each event, users have the option to report their experience and what they felt during the earthquake.
